World War II Memorial, ca. 1950

Constructed around 1950, this bronze plaque memorializes thirty-five Windsor men who lost their life during World War II. Beginning in WWI, homes, places of business, and organizations displayed service flags to indicate the number of members of the family or organizations who were serving in the Armed Forces or who had died from such service. They used a blue star to represent each living member in the service and a "Gold Star" for each member who had died. American Gold Star Mothers organized in 1928 and is still an active service organization. Copyright 2015 Windsor Historical Society.
